How OpenID works

OpenID is a way for one website to piggy-back off an authenticated session from another website. In this way, only one password is required for both sites.

How OpenID Works

What OpenID provides

OpenID on its own is very, very simple. All OpenID does is tell you the site-owner that someone is the same user they were last time they visited you.

It doesn't (in its simplest form) tell you anything about the user, whether they are a man or woman or how old they are. All it says that they're the same person they were last time.

OpenID simply allows you to create an account for users and to start personalising your site to them.
